Hair Loss

There are many types of hair loss (also known as ALOPECIA), There are two broad categories of hair loss; scarring and non scarring. Common types of non scarring alopecia include male and female pattern alopecia, alopecia areata, and telogen effluvium . Hair loss can also occur as a result of medications as well as underlying medical conditions. Common types of scarring alopecia includes lupus, lichen planopilaris , central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia, traction alopecia, as well as less common causes. Hair loss can also be caused by infections of the scalp. The treatment of hair loss is based on a extensive evaluation that includes a history, exam and often a biopsy. A treatment plan is designed to fit the needs of each patient.
