There are several types of skin cancer. The three main types are Basal Cell Carcinoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma, and Melanoma. While all skin cancers are thought to be related to sun exposure, melanoma also has a hereditary connection. All skin types can develop skin cancer, which is why it is important to wear sunscreen any time you are outdoors year round. Regular skin examinations by a dermatologist are recommended by the American Cancer Society, but monthly self-skin examinations at home are also important. You should notify us if you develop any new lesions, if you have any changing lesions, or if you have any non-healing spot on your skin.
